Description

This Hanukkah Menorah by Mishaan is designed in a classic antique copper with the word Jerusalem embossed on the front and biblical motifs along the stem. The Jerusalem design and copper material are antique and therefore reminiscent of the Menorahs we all used and enjoyed in our grandparents' homes. The design is majestic with its 3 levels of support and long and intricate stem and branches. The candle holder cups look like oil cups which are also more antique and remind us of the olive oil used during Temple Times. The design is also resonant of the gold 7-branched Menorah which was found in the Jewish Temples of Jerusalem and the beautiful story of Hanukkah or the Festival of Lights and how the Maccabees overcame the Greek dictatorship rule. This is reminiscent of the antique copper Menorahs which every grandmother bequeathed to her children as a family heirloom and which stood splendidly on cabinets and windowsills of Jewish homes. The legendary miracle of Hanukkah came about when the Jews returned to the Temple to purify and rededicate it. As they got ready to light the Temple menorah, they found only one small flask of oil, not nearly enough to last until more olive oil could be purified and prepared. But this small flask of oil, enough for only one day, lasted for eight days and nights. Thus Hanukkah is celebrated with the kindling of lights every night for eight nights.
